The #CLE Wedding Cake Challenge will be a supreme display of wedding cakes created by some of the city’s most talented cake artists and decorators.
Competitors will compete to create the most spectacular wedding cake. Watch the city's most creative decorators and pastry enthusiasts craft cakes beyond your wildest dreams.
This exciting competition will act as a learning experience for all and serve as an opportunity for competitors to showcase their talents and creativity, test their skills, and step out of their comfort zones with new techniques. The #CLE Wedding Cake-Off will award over $2,000 in cash and prizes to the 1st & 2nd place winner and a trophy to People’s Choice!! Prizes sponsored by The Cleveland Women’s Journal, Darlafoxx, Dave & Buster’s, Hyatt Place and the Bridal Registry. The winner will also be featured in The Cleveland’s Women’s Journal!!

INFORMATION & RULES
The registration deadline for the #CLE Wedding Cake Challenge is October 31, 2018 or until capacity. This is not just three tiers of your ordinary white icing and rose-type cake! We are looking to find who has the most extreme talent in Cleveland Wedding Cakes! Prizes will be awarded on skill, ultimate presentation, professionalism, sanitation standards as well as artist’s talent and originality in this Ultimate Wedding Cake Challenge! Decorators compete while using all of their talents to sculpt, assemble, decorate and display the very best wedding cake design produced in their own shops, bakeries and boutiques! Professional judging during the event will help determine the overall winner as they showcase their Ultimate finished entry at Expo! Are you up to the Ultimate Wedding Cake Challenge? The entry fee is only $50! All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a copy of scores. All judges’ decisions are final and based on the combined average of the judges scoring.
JUDGING CRITERIA & STANDARDS
Below are the standards for the #CLE Wedding Cake Challenge. Scoring in each category will use some or all of these standards. A large emphasis will be given to creativity!
A) At LEAST one tier must be cake for judging taste. Dummies are permissible unless sculpted. Keep in mind you are judged on difficulty and creativity and it is much easier to decorate a dummy than cake.
B) Tiers can be frosted/covered/stacked in any manner of your choosing prior to arrival as long as at least 50% of the assembly is being done on sight. On site assembly is allowed from 7a to 10a ONLY. All work must be stopped at 9:30a You will have 30 minutes for clean-up.
C) Base dimensions maximum: 24” x 24” and not more than 2” in thickness!
D) Everything must be edible with the exception of structure elements and dummy tiers EX: boards and dowels.
E) Any manner of sugar artistry is permitted and highly encouraged.
F) At the completion of your final assembly, all competitors will stop and clean up their work area, as well as the general area and common equipment area of the competition.
G) Competitors will be allowed one (1) assistant/team member of their choosing to assist in their area during the set up.
H) Competitors must bring any and all items, supplies, cakes, decorations, etc. needed to finish entry into the #CLE Wedding Cake Challenge. We will NOT supply any materials for your entry.
I) Cakes will be on display from 10a until judging. All cakes must be removed by 6p. We are not responsible to return items to competitors! No exceptions. It would be wise to offer the audience samples of your cake after judging but it is not mandatory.
J) All scoring will be shared with the individual competitors; however, all judges’ decisions are final. Scores will be determined by tabulating the judges scoring and averaging the number of total points per entry.
K) Judging will start at 4pm on the day of the event and the winners will be announced the next day at 2p at the Bridal Fashion Show.
L) All participants must be licensed. Bakery license or business license is required to register for competition. Cottage food bakers are permitted to compete as long as they have a registered business license.
